Market Shifting, A's Slime, Inside Arbitration Battles

Short-term deals for high-end free agents are how you’d describe the 2024 offseason, with Blake Snell, Cody Bellinger, and Matt Chapman signing shorter contracts with higher average annual values.

Fast forward a year, and Pete Alonso could be next. His camp reportedly offered a three-year deal with opt-outs exclusively to the Mets, per SNY analyst Jim Duquette.

Fellow free agents Anthony Santander and Jack Flaherty are also reportedly open to short-term “prove it” deals, hinting that the market has shifted as Spring Training nears.
