The Tigers roared into a Wild Card spot after taking two of three over the weekend in Baltimore. The Twins find themselves a game back after losing both games of their doubleheader against Boston on Sunday. The Mariners trail by two after dropping their series finale against Texas.

The Royals are also struggling. They’ve dropped seven straight but still hold one of the two remaining spots behind the Orioles.

After another strong weekend, the Mets are tied with the Diamondbacks for the second NL Wild Card position. They sit two games ahead of the Braves, who they’ll face in a three-game set starting on Tuesday.

The Nationals demoted All-Star shortstop CJ Abrams to the minors after he spent all night at a Chicago-area casino. He left just hours before Friday’s afternoon game against the Cubs.

Nationals manager Dave Martinez reportedly spoke with Abrams for a significant amount of time on Friday in what he referred to as an emotional conversation. Martinez also made it known that his young shortstop has his full support.

The story was first reported by CHGO (ALLCITY Network) and later confirmed by ESPN’s Jesse Rogers.
