Dylan Cease is back on the trade block.

The New York Post reported on Friday that the Mets were among the teams who’ve inquired about the 29-year-old. The Chicago Cubs are reportedly also in the mix.

However, despite New York’s interest, a trade is unlikely at the moment due to the significant cost it would take to acquire Cease, according to The Athletic’s Will Sammon.

Cease is coming off an impressive first season with the Padres, in which he posted a 3.47 ERA in just over 189 innings. He’s set to make $13.75M in 2025 before hitting the open market this winter.
