FT Leadoff

Mariner Meltdown, Guardians Lead Shrinking, Playoff Race Updates

The Mariners are wasting away their electric rotation.

On June 18, they led the AL West by ten games. Since the following day, their .388 winning percentage is second-worst in baseball, behind only the White Sox. Seattle dropped two of three to the Pirates over the weekend and trail the division-leading Astros by four games.

Houston and Seattle have one more series matchup in late September, but there’s a real chance the division could be a done deal by then.

After getting swept by the Brewers over the weekend, the Guardians lead in the AL Central is uncomfortably shrinking.

This comes after a five-game win streak, preceded by a seven-game losing streak, preceded by another five-game win streak. Streak much?

The Twins are just two games back of Cleveland after grabbing their series against Texas. Kansas City is three games back after sweeping the Reds.
